Frequently Asked Questions

Here at Wintaura Guitar Works, we often receive some very similar enquiries. Please see some examples below to see if your question can be answered. If not feel free to get in touch and we'll try and help you out.

What instruments do you work on?

We regularly work on electric and acoustic guitars, classicals, basses, banjos, mandolins, ukulele, bazoukis and everything else in between. Please note that we don't work on orchestral instruments such as violins, cellos, double basses and the like, but we can recommend places that will.

Do you repair amplifiers and effects pedals?

Unfortunately we don't, we neither have the time nor the space. We can however highly recommend Sound Service in Castleford for all your music related electronic repair requirements. Specialists in pro audio repairs. Click on the link to check them out.

How long will you have my instrument for?

This varies obviously on the work required. Very simple things like restrings or strap button installs can usually be done while you wait. Setup work is usually completed within a week - this gives the instrument chance to settle while we monitor for any changes. Bigger jobs like structural work can take much longer, but these are processes that shouldn't be rushed, as doing so can compromise the finished result. We'll try to give you an estimated timeframe when you drop your instrument off, but please be aware that this can change with bigger jobs. We'll always keep you informed of any major delays to your agreed timescale and we'll always endeavour where possible to get your instrument ready in time if you have upcoming gigs.

How much is it?

Please check  out our Services pages to get a rough idea of cost for the most common jobs. Often we may need to see the instrument first to give you an estimate. Book in here.

Do you do reprays/refinishing work?

While we are able to offer a limited finishing service where repairs are concerned, we are unable to undertake large scale resprays or custom finish work. Doing a professional job with finishing is a highly skilled and time consuming process, and as such is better off in the hands of specialists with the facilities to complete such demands.

Do you stock strings?

We are proud to stock a wide range of D'addario strings here at Wintaura Guitar Works. Other brands can be ordered on request, or you can supply your own if required.

Can you order me parts in before I drop my instrument off?

While we stock a wide range of the most common components here at Wintaura Guitar Works, often individual pieces will be ordered specifically for the job in hand once we have received your instrument. That way, you can be assured that what you're getting is right for your guitar. If time is an issue and/or you're unsure of the parts you may require and you'd like us to order parts before your appointment, we'd ask for payment in advance of any orders.
